Information We Collect

When you use the BetterPrice Chrome extension, it reads basic product information from the pages you visit — specifically product title, price, brand (when available), and the page URL — in order to find cheaper alternatives on Amazon. We strip query parameters from URLs before they reach our servers, keeping only product identifiers (sku, product_id, etc.) on a strict allowlist. We do not collect your name, email, payment details, browsing history, or any data from non-product pages. The extension only activates on pre-approved e-commerce sites; on other sites, you must click the extension icon to activate it manually.

Match Quality Reports

If you click the small flag icon on a product card to report a mismatch, we record the ASIN, the reason you selected, and a one-way hashed version of your IP address (used only to prevent spam, never to identify you). These reports help us improve matching and block bad results. Reports do not contain any personally identifying information.

How We Use Your Data

Product data collected by the extension is used to (1) find matching products on Amazon via Amazon's Product Advertising API and a third-party Amazon data provider, (2) display price comparison results to you, (3) build our database of public price comparison pages on betterprice.io, and (4) improve our matching algorithms via aggregated, anonymized analytics. We cache exchange rates and product lookups for up to one hour to reduce duplicate calls.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. Product comparison data may be displayed publicly on betterprice.io/compare pages (showing the store URL with PII stripped, product name, brand, and prices). We do not include any personally identifying information on these pages. We use Supabase as our data storage provider; their privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy. We send product titles and ASINs to Amazon (via the Product Advertising API) and to a third-party Amazon data provider in order to fetch prices and availability.

Affiliate Links

BetterPrice.io participates in the Amazon Associates affiliate program. When you click an Amazon link from our extension or website, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate revenue is the only way we monetize the extension; this lets us keep it free with no ads, no tracking, and no premium tier.

Cookies

Our website uses minimal cookies for analytics purposes only. The Chrome extension does not use cookies and does not persist any tracking identifiers across sites.

Security

Requests from the extension to our servers are signed with HMAC-SHA256 to verify they originate from a real BetterPrice extension instance. This is a server-integrity measure, not a personal-data measure — it does not identify users. We use HTTPS for all data in transit. Stored data is hosted with Supabase on managed infrastructure with industry-standard access controls.

Your Rights

You can uninstall the BetterPrice Chrome extension at any time to stop data collection. You can also revoke its permission on individual sites via Chrome's extension settings. If you'd like any anonymized data associated with your usage to be deleted, email hello@betterprice.io with enough context for us to locate it (e.g. a store URL or rough timestamp).

Children

BetterPrice is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any data from them. If you believe we have inadvertently received data from a child, please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the extension after a policy update constitutes acceptance.
